Hi Finch Friends, Lisa here! I thought it would be fun to share a few of my favorite quilting staples that are perfect for gifting to the quilter in your life.
Number one on any quilters list is always (and I do mean always) fabric! I promise, there is no shortage of fabric at Finch. We just got in some lovely Charley Harper prints by Birch Fabrics this week which has me planning another quilt for my nephew! Pre-cuts are always a great gift, and this lovely stack of Cotton and Steel Basics is waiting to be put under some lucky person’s tree. But sometimes picking out the fabric for yourself is the BEST part – a Finch gift card would be a happy happy surprise!
Are you looking to get a gift for a new quilter? I highly recommend a 24″ ruler, a ruler guard (you’ll see these attached to all our rulers…. they’re hard to find, but we have them at Finch), a cutting mat, and a great rotary cutter. These 3 basic tools will make cutting fabric for your next project a breeze. A pair of high quality scissors from Kai is a great addition to your tool kit and snips (small scissors or thread cutters) are a must have at the sewing machine.
Seam rippers are a necessary evil, right?! So why not rip that seam in with something really pretty?! We purchased these from a local artisan who makes the handles by hand. Aren’t they pretty?!
If you’re shopping for an experienced quilter, you may notice that she has all of the essential tools. Not to worry! We have a few new and exciting things that are sure to please this lady! Add to her thread stash with a thread bundle. My current must have in my stash is the Mettler thread, and we have a great range of colors from basic whites, grays and blacks to raspberry and tangerine. These make great stocking stuffers!
Free Motion Quilting is so much fun and I’m sure your quilter enjoys it just as much as I do. Make her job just a bit easier with the Machingers. These simple little gloves give you complete control of your quilting.
Two words- Wonder Clips. These little guys are my favorite new notion. I use them for everything and I mean everything. These clips make binding a breeze, whether using them for machine binding or hand stitching the binding. I also use these clips when I’m making bags. They hold all of the layers together without the use of pins.
Speaking of binding, we just got the best needles here at the shop. These Tulip needles are perfect for hand stitching and hand quilting. They are sharp and super slim making sewing just that much easier. It doesn’t hurt that they are also super cute.
We have some really great quilting books and patterns in our shop right now. If your quilter is ready to gain a new skill then these two books will be a great addition to her stash.
Not only do these book have some serious eye-candy, but they are great learning tools.
All of these wonderful tools can be found at Finch! We would love to help you create the perfect gift for the quilter in your life! Come on in, and don’t forget to see if your favorite sewist has a Finch Registry on file!
Oh, and one more thing… We’re hosting a Guy’s Night on Monday, Dec. 22nd. The event is from 6-9, and there will be Beeeeeeer!! Don’t worry guys, we’re not gonna make you make anything this time. This is a shopping event for guys to get what they need for the special ladies in their lives.
Ladies, forward this info to your guys!
Happy Holidays,
Lisa
